Elk and Paint Pots

Up early again without an alarm clock. Seems 6am is an internal time clock. Normal morning routine of breakfast, coffee and loading the car. Checked out of the Lodge and headed for Snow Lodge to access their WiFi.
Spent until 11:30a at Snow Lodge and got caught up on our blogging, facebook, email and pictures. Felt good. Stopped by the Post Office and mailed a postcard to each of my boys. Today will be mostly driving to recuperate from yesterday’s 9 hours on the trail.

First stop, Firehole Lake Drive where we viewed White Dome Geyser and walked around yet another geyser, pool and flowing hot springs. Firehole Canyon Drive is a two-mile, one-way drive along the Firehole River. Got a great shot of what we thought was an eagle but I’m guessing it’s an osprey.

Photographed Firehole Falls and then came across a long line of cars parked on half of this one-way lane in the “no parking” zone. So we parked there too! ELK! ELK! Bunches of elk! We counted a total 8 elk made up of cows and calves. Can you find all 7?

They made our day and we eventually had to leave them but secretly hoped for more spottings down the road.
Passed some fly fishermen and just had to stop for a shot of their technique and river wading.

Fountain Paint Pot was another recommended spot of mud holes and fumaroles (vented only steam and no water).

This was a great place for our Flip cameras to get some video for our blog. Only viewed the mud holes and the fumaroles and left the rest of the tourists to the geysers. We’re geysered out!

Last stop Black Sand Basin. Yup! You guessed it! More geysers and pools of many colors. A very windy day to say the least and someone didn’t keep hold of his hat but the wind helped him donate it to this pool at Black Sand Basin.

Checked in at Old Faithful Inn and had reserved one of the old original rooms with two double beds. Very rustic and the lighting is low. Probably very bright in those days.

Beautiful wash basin and loved the double windows. Can you see our complimentary robes in the mirror’s reflection? Complimentary to use NOT take! ☺
Off to the Inn’s gift store for the final purchases of the trip. Got my Navajo handmade doll, a Yellowstone throw and a photo album for my pictures. Then we went to the OF Lodge for the cafeteria style dinner that we’ve enjoyed for the past 2 nights. Finished our journaling and picture downloading before returning to the Inn for a glass of wine and some time on the 2nd story veranda. This is the good life! (no time to upload video...coming later)
