Awoke at 6am and Melodie was still sleeping. Unusual for her since she sleeps so little. So I tiptoed about and got ready to let her sleep as much as possible.
After breakfast, we filled up with gas and stopped at the General Store for bread and postage stamps but ended up buying much more for souvenirs for myself and the kids. A nice Yellowstone charm for my necklace, a collared black shirt of Grand Teton NP and a Native American iron piece for my kitchen wall.
Spent an hour at the office to use their WiFi and blogspot gave me fits but ended up posting only words and no photos. Returned to the room around 11a to finish loading the car, leave a note for “Mandy” (our maid from China) which said Share Share Knee – “ Thank you” (Got that from Laura Ying Gao, my 99 sister.
Hit the road for Yellowstone and didn’t stop until reaching the national park sign.
After entering Yellowstone, we stopped at a couple turnouts, Lewis Falls (on the side of the road)
and got our picture taken at one of three signs posted for crossing the Continental Divide.
Along the way, Shoshone Lake and Kepler Cascades offered yet another photo opportunity.
Crossed the Continental Divide three times.
Got to the Old Faithful Lodge just minutes before Old Faithful was ready to erupt.
Stayed to film the geyser both with stills and my Flip and then returned to the lodge for checkin. It was a mad house! Checked in with Gloria from Colorado who travels around with her husband and works for Xanterra and others as a retiree. She was a media specialist too! You can sign up to get a phone interview and be hired to work in the park of your choice with a website.
Tried the gift shop which was packed to the gills with people. It’s this way after every geyser eruption we’re told. If you want to see it almost empty, shop during the eruption.
Unloaded the car into our cabin 124
and decided to drive around to see where everything was located. Parked in the lot across the way and went to the visitor’s center for some much-needed advice on hikes and sites.
Visited the General Store for MORE shopping and bought myself a frame and a Christmas ornament. Only my doll left to find.
Drove back to our room to leave the car and eat dinner at the lodge’s cafeteria.
Trout almandine with rice and mixed veggies and a small dish of strawberry frozen yogurt for dessert. Returned to the room with our desserts and settled in to download, write and shower.
Beddy-bye time.
