Views Halooo & Wildlife

Just so y'all know...I have no control over where the pictures "pop" into this so they won't always line with my wording. Keep browsing and you'll see 'em eventually. :) And it wouldn't cooperate and let me post more photos so please wait until tomorrow.

Early to rise this morning (July 9), about 5:30am without an alarm clock. Took our time getting ready and spent until 10:00 using the WiFi in the office to post our blog and pictures. Hit the road ready for our National Park visit.

Took advantage of most of the turnouts and scenic overlooks. Stopped in Smoot, Wy for a bathroom break only to be greeted by a cranky woman when I asked for the nearest bathroom. “Seven miles down the road in Afton”, was her reply as she turned to continue gossiping with a friend. Reaching Afton, we found a Burger King to make our pit stop and bought a sandwich to go with our salad. Trouble is, we never got around to our salad until dinner.

Tried to follow signs to an historic marker for the Oregon Trail but only found gravel roads too narrow to turn around. Oh yes…and this great fence.

Whitewater rafters were cruising the Snake River and having a blast. Got a couple shots of a large bird but can’t ID it. Looks like an osprey to me. We left that overlook and found some cars pulled off on the side of the road and a man with a HUGE camera lens on a tripod in the distance. So we followed suit and hurried to his site being sure to avoid the elk/moose patties in the field and got rewarded with moose in this National Elk Refuge.

Took the Gros Ventre Rd. where we were blessed with sightings of bison and fields of wildflowers.

Checked on our reservations with Barker-Ewing Float Rides for tomorrow and picked up some Deep Woods Off. Boy are the flies and mosquitoes bad!

Stopped to watch a rock climber at Blacktail Butte then made another stop at Blacktail Overlook. Here we were patient enough to stand in the rain with our cameras and take scenic photos. This gave us the reward of having a mother moose and her calf down in the ravine about 30 yards from us! She just made our day.

Stopped at X-Triangle ranch entrance to get some great shots of a herd of horses.

A flock of Canadian geese were enjoying the Snake River at Oxbow Point. Although a great place to spot wildlife, the only other wildlife were the flies and mosquitoes carrying us to our car.

Decided to get to Colter Bay Village and check-in for the night at 7pm. Rainy and overcast doesn’t make for good photos so we’ll skip the “let’s find wildlife at dusk” plan and get our blog ready for uploading in the morning. PB&J and a salad for dinner. I just love “cheap”. Goodnight!

Tomorrow begins the adventure anew. Can’t wait!
